Croutons Recipe

Croutons are a crisp and crunchy little cube of bread, commonly used to garnish soups and salads, such as Caesar Salad.

  • 4 to 5 slices of thick dry white bread - such as Sourdough
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 clove of garlic

Trim the crusts off the slices of bread and cut into 1 cm (½ inch) cubes. Melt the butter in a pan. Bruise the garlic clove and add to the butter, stirring it around for a moment or two to flavour the butter before removing. Fry the bread in the flavoured butter, tossing the cubes until they are golden brown on both sides and crisp right through. Drain on absorbent kitchen paper.
